Evaluation
1. In what ways does your magazine product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product follows other real media products and conventions out there right now because it full of features that most magazine and media product lack these days. At the same time the layout convention is typical of real music magazine layout. The concept of a common music magazine is still present in my magazine.

 I studied a vibe magazine for a case study and used it as a basis for my own magazine. On the vibe magazine the front cover has an image of Eminem which may be the main subject of this magazine. The shot of this image is a medium close-up; it gives a view of the head to the waist. I have used the same concept but used two models in the image because they are a singing duo. Some of the image covers the masthead which gives it a sense of commonality.

The image position is in front of text/ mast head VIBE which may suggest that the magazine is well known and the audience who view this magazine already know the name. I also used this concept in my magazine to show that it is a well-known magazine. The vibe magazine catches an image which makes the magazine seem serious. It is a shot of Eminem with a serious but innocent face which may suggest to the viewer it is a serious topic the main featured article which the main cover line also suggest when it says ‘comes clean’. I also tried to capture a similar image of a not so serious but down to business look. I also used the technique of direct address, which draws in my audience in the same way that Vibe does. My models face portrays these feelings which give a feeling that the models are staring at the audience.

For this magazine I used the concept from my research and investigation task where I researched magazines I adapted it to my music magazine. I used the same idea for my mast head as the vibe magazine; the colour fades to another colour. I changed this concept later on because it clashed with the colour scheme. The overall colour scheme of my magazine is an opposite effect which goes with the models clothing’s which I continued in my new magazine throughout. In the new magazine got rid of ‘the new boys issue’ which was similar.
It brings a new edition and enjoyment not only just to reading but exploring and researching into music.

The front covers of these 3 magazines have very <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->similar conventions e.g. the mast head and cover lines placement. The images had to be changed a few times to compliment the text which the vibe magazine does perfectly. The vibe magazine has a very simple by effective colour scheme which revolves around the model. I tried to create the same convention by using the same colours as the model as my colour scheme.

The contents page is very simple and basic which the audience can read and it attracts the reader because of the clear colour scheme. Comparing my current contents page to old original one it is much clearer and visible in terms of text so the reader can see. Unlike the older contents page, my images are placed so the reader can see them clearly. I changed the big image across both pages because it was blurred and if paged was folded the reader would not be able to see the full image. The UCA trademark at the top corner is consistent throughout just like the vibe magazine which keeps the reader informed what magazine they are reading. The layout of the text is lined up which has a structure similar to the vibe magazine. My original magazine had the text revolving around the image which is a good idea but which made it confusing to the reader from far off.

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

On the DPS, it is in the style and format is an interview style which I changed it because it looked unprofessional. Some text was larger than the other which was inconsistent. Also a big major issue was that the text was covering the image.

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
In my new DPS has a great amount of improvement because the text is more structured which is in a newspaper format. There is no text covering the images and some of the writing is in white which comes out well on a black background. I also added an extra convention which is a short biography about my artist which makes my magazine different. The title ‘mission’ has been kept because it shows two colours clashing together to make purple to show the contrast between the two models, which makes my magazine stand out.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine is a way for rappers singings and producers to connect together for a common goal to make music. The images of the two artist show young urban artist which gives an instant idea of what type of what the target audience is. It has several of different social groups join together to form a music social group. It is a way for people to socialise through music. The rappers I am showing is a new act to the industry which could represent lots of other rappers out there because other rappers can relate form where they are coming from. The magazine stands out and appeals to the modern music group because of the style and theme of it. It is not too formal but has enough information that the reader can read and not get bored of which images are there to break up the mood of just reading. The colour scheme which is red, blue and black gives it a sense of it is not serious but the right attraction for the target audience. At the same time the magazine is full of formal information which the target audience needs. This represents the music in the magazine also.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The institution I will aim my magazine at it privately funded which has a channel on you tube. Newsstands are also like direct distribution because they sell their magazines to the public directly but the companies depend on the customers as well as advertisers for their profit. These magazines are not free but pay on the spot system. Newsstands also target their audience by selling their products in busy areas like tube station. This type of distribution also has a lot of waste because if not all of the magazines are sold it is returned to the retailer and often is thrown away because it is out of date. The type of company who will publish my magazine will be NME (new music express). I chose this publisher because they are recognised for bring new type of music to the music industry which is exactly what my music magazine is trying to portray.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The type of audience my music magazine will be aimed at is young adults aged from 15-26 of any ethnic background, mainly males of urban taste of music and mainly in the working class. This project can be aimed at anyone that wants to show their talent but the some people may agree that the target audience will be for teenagers and upcoming artist. It is also for music producers them to read about talent and see who they want to sign. The magazine industry will be aimed at are live performances, record labeling and creative arts.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
The way how I attract my audience was to get a thing that the audience can participate in and which would strike their eyes at first sight e.g. using a common win draw prize which will get the audience to think that there is a chance for them interact. There is also news on other celebrities and charts which some magazines don’t have any more which shows that has more than one subject to talk about and can relate to people of the richer class. There are feature pages with images throughout the magazine to make it a more versatile magazine. The language used was understandable to all types of audience but had a modern urban type of feel to it. Also the image selection also attracted the audience and also gave a sense of target audience. The models wore checkered shirts and a snap-back  Both of these types of clothing were old type of clothing which was brought back into the modern day fashion.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
There are many technologies which are used to construct and proper music magazine. I have learnt how to construct a magazine front cover, contents page and DPS. I have learnt the important things that needed and are acquired to construct a detailed a professional magazine, using image, text, detailed writing etc...Text boxes are used to suppress the text in a certain place so it doesn't go out of line. I learnt how to send images to the font by add different layers in the right places and to expand them without disturbing the resolution by keeping them on the same proportion by holding down shift. I learnt how to use the brush tool. The brush tool was very useful because I could blend different colours and text into the background. In InDesign I used text boxes and created page layers. I was a bit confused on how to do it but as I used it more I got used to it. A skill that I learnt on Photoshop was how to make the image appear in front of the text. To upload and convert text and images in Photoshop and InDesign into PDF files so I could upload to blogger. I started to use illustrator an alternative to make different text. I think my strengths of Photoshop are that I can construct different layer and create dimensions which the front cover could be formed. In InDesign I could create text and text boxes which could use to create a layout for my contents page and DPS. Weakness is in InDesign which was very hard trying creating layers which is needed so the text can place in the right order according to how I wanted it. It was difficult trying to get the same colour from my front cover which was in Photoshop onto my DPS and contents page which was in InDesign. On the front cover it was hard trying to place the cover line so it doesn't clash with the image which took very long and had a lot of changes to get right.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

There is a lot of attention to detail that needs to be considered whilst making a magazine like a consistent colour scheme and visible text. You need to plan the stages before you make the initial magazine. In my preliminary task I took the same idea of opposite colours as the colour scheme for my music magazine. I really liked the idea so I used it and my music magazine looked more professional. My college magazine was my first attempt at using Photoshop and InDesign which I found very hard because it was the first time exploring them. At first I did not know what the concept of each tool was but I explored and played around all the different technologies inside these programmes and found my way around. In this task I found out how to make the background transparent through white as you can see on my contents page. My music magazine photos where done professionally unlike the college magazine which was done using a standard camera outside of a photo room. In the studio I have learn how change the lighting according what type of effect I wanted in the background. The images and backgrounds were easier to put text on because they were not distorted. The contents page on the college magazine was very poor compared to my music magazine because there was no specific colour scheme; it made the magazine look very childish. I improved on this in my music magazine by sticking to the set colour scheme throughout the magazine. Overall I think my music magazine is a huge improvement from my college magazine. The layout, text language, photos and design had been a huge improvement and I now know what is needed to produce a professional music magazine.
